Deandre Ayton had been a disappointment in the first half of the 2023-2024 NBA season. A max contract player with nobody else to take the shots should not average a measly 12 and 10 a game.

All of this wasn’t Ayton’s fault. He was thrust into a new role and was marred by injuries that broke up any of his good stretches.

But in his last 25 games, he’s been averaging 19 points and 11.5 boards while playing stellar defense.

His slow start was because he was slumbering on an air mattress.
